The Tree of Knowledge

63”x80” OIL ON CANVAS/WOOD 2003

The central image of this painting is a representation of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Eve’s primal act of defiance brought freewill to mankind, but with it came the end of Paradise. Pain, suffering and the potential for acts of hideous cruelty, as well as those of great goodness, became internalized in the human psyche.

The side panels are taken from displays in the Hiroshima Peace Museum showing the aftermath of the nuclear bombing of that city.
