The End of Paradise

64X44 OIL ON WOOD PANEL 2004

This painting completes the four part series THE DIVINE ECOLOGY.

The Biblical account of the banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden reads:

And having driven out the man, He stationed at the east of the Garden of Eden the Cherubim and the flame of the ever-turning sword, to guard the way to the Tree of Life.

Receding pale ellipses, surrounded by advancing gestural strings of red and orange, evoke the barrier of flame and the withdrawal of the center that the Bible suggests were Adam and Eve’s last look at the lost Paradise.
