59”x50” oil on canvas/wood 1999

The bottom panel of this painting depicts the great Biblical flood described in Genesis:

“The waters strengthened very much upon the earth, all the high mountains which are under the entire heavens were covered….And he blotted out all existence that was on the face of the ground – from man to animals to creeping things and to the bird of the heavens; and they were blotted out from the earth.”

After God created the flood and destroyed the earth, saving only Noah and his family and the pairs of animals needed to repopulate the planet, … “ the Lord said in His heart: I will not …curse again the ground because of man”, implying that he would never destroy life on earth again through water.

The nuclear explosion shown in the lunette suggests that the next destruction may be one of fire and caused instead by man.
